Charcoal walls, fluted oak paneling and a green velvet bed. Lights low, door closed, and the whole house goes quiet.

A gilded house in the woods, designed for connection.
Immersing yourselves in nature from a 1,500-square-foot deck, with the mountain woods right behind the house.

The Gilded Grouse is a six-bedroom luxe cabin in the mountain woods at Massanutten Four Seasons Resort in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, hosted by Laura and Michael. It sleeps 16 and backs onto undeveloped forest. A 1,500-square-foot deck holds a hot tub, a sauna, a fire table and outdoor dining for 16, beside a mountainside yard with ping pong and yard games.
Gathering with friends and family in gilded, luxuriously designed rooms made for long evenings. Immersing yourselves in nature from a 1,500-square-foot deck, with the mountain woods right behind the house. And staying close to everything the resort and the Shenandoah Valley offer, in every season.
A house in the woods, not just near them.
Off the deck, the mountainside yard has outdoor ping pong, bucket golf, giant Jenga, cornhole and six red Adirondack chairs, with the woods just beyond.

Unwind on the 1,500-square-foot back deck as the string lights come on, with the fire table glowing, the cedar barrel sauna warming up and the hot tub ready for the whole group.
The 1,500-square-foot back deck is where the afternoons go. Relax in the hot tub, take a turn in the cedar barrel sauna, then pull a chair up to the fire table as the string lights come on. Two outdoor dining tables seat all 16, steps from the gas grill.

Settle into the enormous navy velvet sectional in the lamplit great room, with a smart TV and soundbar for movie night and gallery walls of the great American novels all around.
The house is dressed in deep navy, forest and plum, with velvet, leather and brass, and lamplight instead of overhead glare. The great room centers on an enormous navy velvet sectional, deep enough that somebody usually falls asleep during the movie, with a smart TV and soundbar, a record player for after, and gallery walls of the great American novels.

Cook and dine together in one open room, where the dining table, island and breakfast table seat 18 to 20 and whoever is at the stove stays part of the conversation.
The open kitchen has double ovens, a big granite island and a coffee bar with options for coffee, decaf and tea drinkers. The dining table, island and breakfast table seat 18 to 20 in one open room, so whoever is cooking is still part of the conversation.

Rack up a game of pool in the sunroom game room, with shuffleboard, air hockey, Golden Tee and Ms. Pac-Man close by and big windows looking out over the mountainside yard.
The game room is a sunroom that looks upon the mountainside yard, with doors straight onto the deck: a pool table, shuffleboard (it plays bowling too), air hockey, Golden Tee and Ms. Pac-Man arcade machines, a ring swing game and a globe bar.
Your sleep matters as much as anything else here, so every bed has a Helix mattress, bunks included. At The Gilded Grouse, a great night's sleep is part of the experience.
